So Among those people divinely orchestrated to cross our paths is one person in particular, Sukey Novogratz. Our response to the gang rape of a teenage girl in Richmond. Our response to front willing workers slowly getting destroyed by the suffering they bare witness to everyday. Our response to our board and donors to research and study our approach to healing and prove that it transforms lives. Our response to parents and schools waking up to teen dating violence, all made possible by Sukey and her family. The list goes on and it basically reads like a list of everything we’ve ever done. Game changing generosity. And we are able to answer not only what is necessary but to ask the question what’s possible. To broaden our vision. To think. To imagine, though I don’t think any of us imagined a need would arise quite like this. Sukey, you’re a lot of things. You’re a light. You are a gift. You are a student. You are a teacher. You are brave like I’ve never seen. You are open, curious and committed. You’re a friend. An advocate. A supporter. A visionary and a warrior. We want to honor you for all you’ve given. We want to thank you for your gigantic yes. But even more than that, Sukey, we want to honor that big, fierce, beautiful, open heart where the yes comes from. So we are filled with joy to present this year’s heart of gold award to our warrior, Sukey Novogratz.
